Ambassadors were introduced to Hong Kong’s coastal biodiversity and the problem of marine litter through indoor lectures and outdoor training. After the training, the ambassadors assisted with the public and school beach cleanings. It is hoped that the ambassadors will continue to participate in marine conservation projects and actively raise awareness on marine litter among various communities.

A half-day activity day, aiming at bringing students into contact with the coast, learning about the local marine ecology and the marine litter situation, participating in beach cleanup activities, and fostering the sense of civic-mindedness and conservation of nature, so as to contribute to the protection of the local coastal environment. Students will also participate in beach clean-up and develop a sense of civic-mindedness and conservation of nature.

Through participating in beach cleanups , we hope the public will understand the difficulty of beach clean-up and the impact of marine litter on the coastal ecosystem. This is to promote the importance of waste reduction at source.

Environment and Conservation Fund: Community Ocean Litter Obliteration and Education Programme (CO-OP) Project Showcase & Closing Ceremony was held on 16-17 November 2024 at D•PARK. The exhibition showcased the achievements of the two-year programme, beach clean-up records, the impact of marine litter, tips on waste reduction at source, installation art made of marine debris and highlights of the programme. At the closing ceremony on 17 November, we summarised the journey of the two-year project, presented certificates to the ambassadors and shared the joy of completing the project together.

Environment and Conservation Fund:
Community Ocean Litter Obliteration and Education Programme (CO-OP)
Funded by the Environment and Conservation Fund and organised by the Sea Education Association, this two-year programme consists of two phases. Through ambassador training, school and community beach clean-ups, we educate people of different ages and backgrounds on local marine ecology and coastal habitats, while directly engaging them in marine conservation efforts.
The "Community Ocean Litter Obliteration and Education Programme" aims to involve various communities in understanding the predicament of ocean waste, with the hopes of preserving litter-free beaches for everyone. It is our vision to restore coastlines to their natural, pristine state for all to appreciate.
10 school beach clean-up events and 20 community beach clean-up events were held over the two-year programme. Public ambassadors were trained to become leaders in coastal cleanup activities. Together with 591 participants, more than a tonne of coastal waste was cleaned up.
